Cian O'Riordan (BE MBA CEng MIEI)

Since PowerTherm was established in 2001 Cian has been involved in a wide range of projects, including benchmarking, energy surveys, training and awareness, energy policy and strategy development, and electricity procurement. He also assisted UCD in securing co-funding from SEI for the low energy Undegraduate School of Nursing. He is project manager for the 3rd Level College Energy Management Bureau, which is being operated by PowerTherm in conjunction with White Young Green.
Prior to joining PowerTherm, Cian worked as project manager with the Energy Research Group at UCD on a number of projects, sponsored by the European Commission, involving the practical application of renewable energy technologies and the incorporation of energy-efficient technologies into buildings. |
A former employee of Energy Services International (a Caterpillar company), Cian has extensive hands-on and project management experience with Combined Heat and Power plants in the US, the UK, Thailand, India, Indonesia and Australia. Acting as Project Manager for ESI’s dedicated Industrial Power Generation Commissioning Group, Cian managed the installation and commissioning of a number of turnkey installations. These gas turbine driven power plants ranged in size from 1MW simple-cycle units (Hyundai Heavy Industries, India) to multiple unit, 30MW, combined-cycle installations (WMC, Australia). Waste heat was recovered for a variety of applications including industrial drying, process oil, process steam, and absorption chilling.
Cian is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland. He is Honorary Secretary of the Energy-Environment Division of IEI. He holds an honours degree in mechanical engineering from UCD and a first class honours Masters in Business Administration from UCD’s Smurfit School of Business.

Sarah Kelly (BA BAI PhD CEng MIEI)
Since joining PowerTherm in 2005 Sarah has managed the e3 account at UCD, including regular building reports, monthly reports, energy surveys and chairing energy focus meetings. She also has also completed a comprehensive review of Sustainable Energy Ireland’s Public Sector Programme, with short case studies a number of projects, which will be published shortly. Other activities include energy surveys and feasibility studies.
Prior to joining PowerTherm, Sarah was Associate Partner with Byrne Ó Cléirigh consulting engineers. She worked on a broad range of projects in the fields of energy supply and use, environmental protection, and safety and risk management. Assignments included:

Energy audits for a number of industrial clients, including Pfizer (Ireland) Ltd., Smurfit Papermills and Yeast Products Company;
Secondment to Sustainable Energy Ireland with specific responsibility for biomass policy;
Project management responsible for the complete refurbishment of an existing industrial building (c. 1970s) to house a label printing works;
Assisting companies to meet the requirements of Seveso II (major accident prevention) legislation. |
Sarah also worked for two years as Senior Combustion Engineer, Alstom Power UK Ltd., Lincoln, UK.
Sarah is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland. She holds a first class honours degree (Gold Medal, Jeffcott Prize) in mechanical engineering from Trinity College and PhD in the “Measurement and Modeling of Unsteady Combustion”, also from Trinity.

Orla O'Gorman (BComm MAcc ACA)
A former Corporate Development Executive with ABN Amro’s Corporate Finance/Equity Capital Markets team, Orla has extensive experience in financial modelling, investment appraisals, assessing capital funding options and the drafting of detailed financial reports. Orla is a Chartered Accountant and Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ireland. She holds an honours degree in commerce from UCD and a Masters in Accounting from UCD’s Smurfit School of Business.

Patrick Savage (BSc. Engineering)
Patrick joined PowerTherm in 2006, bringing with him a wealth of practical experience in the design, engineering and project management of mechanical and electrical building services. Patrick has undertaken a number of energy surveys, including a large apartment development for the management company, and a number of depots for Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
Prior to joining PowerTherm, Patrick worked for 20 years with the Office of Public Works bringing a range of energy-related projects from concept right through to completion. More recently, as an independent contractor, he has completed geothermal heating and solar thermal installation projects.
Patrick has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from the University of Jordanstown.
