Position:
Project Engineer / Consultant Engineer

Role:
Excellent career opportunity for an engineer to join a small, growing business in the energy sector. The position would suit an individual who is motivated, flexible, and has an engineering bias. The employee will be based in Bray, but will travel to client sites regularly and may be spend for a portion of their time each week at a client site.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Managing Director, this newly created role will have responsibility for:

Designing, planning and supervising the implementation of energy efficiency

retrofit projects

Undertaking energy and condition surveys of clients’ energy usage and the preparation of detailed reports of how energy savings can be achieved.

 

Managing relationships with key clients, mentoring them on reducing energy use.

 

Energy and maintenance management at client site.

Assisting in the ongoing technical development of the organisation

Activities

Energy Retrofit Project Design and Project Management

Identify and provide cost-benefit analysis of energy retrofit projects, such as HVAC upgrade projects.

 

Review existing installation and prepare detailed design of new installation, description of system control, PSDS.

 

Prepare tender documentation and manage in accordance with public procurement requirements.

 

Complete grant application forms where appropriate.

 

Installation supervision and contractor oversight, chair meetings

 

Supervision of project commissioning, system testing, resolution of snags, completion of documentation.

Measurement and verification of energy savings.

Energy Management

Energy analysis and BMS evaluation to identify potential energy savings.

 

Brief and supervise local contractors to resolve issues and reduce energy use.

 

Deliver presentations on energy use and energy survey findings.

 

Preparation of regular reports on energy use in buildings being monitored.

 

Assist clients in keeping track of the implementation of energy saving measures.

Direct implementation of some energy efficiency measures.

Plan projects, brief contractors on the implementation of measures and validate work.

Maintenance management to ensure compliance with best practices, statutory requirements, investigate and resolve issues, and minimise energy use.

Energy Surveys

On a day to day level the engineer will undertake energy surveys involving a range of activities

Undertake a desk-based analysis of clients’ energy use.

 

Tour site to identify main energy users and factors driving energy use.

 

Assess building services plant – HVAC, chillers, boilers, air compressors – and associated controls (BEMS).

 

Use instrumentation – ammeter, power recorder, flue gas analyser, air flow meter, etc. - to quantify energy use and efficiency.

 

Prepare a spreadsheet model of energy uses.

Identify energy saving opportunities, quantify the likely savings and associated cost-benefit.

 

Background
Applicants must hold an honours Bachelor Degree (Level 8 or equivalent) in mechanical or building services engineering. The ideal candidate will be a Chartered Engineer with 8-10 years engineering experience, including 5+ years in building services design and project management. A strong theoretical foundation with an excellent understanding of mechanical building services plant and control is essential; electrical and CAD experience would be advantageous. Experience in undertaking energy surveys would be an advantage, but is not essential, as on the job training will be provided. Maintenance or facilities management experience would also be an advantage. The candidate must have a high standard of written and verbal communication skills. In order to travel to clients’ sites, the candidate must have their own means of transport.

Remuneration
Remuneration package will be competitive, including a performance related bonus. The final package will reflect the candidate’s experiences and skill set.
